Cory McCauley grew up on a rice farm in Soileau, Louisiana. Hadley Fontenot, the Balfa Brothers' original accordion player, taught Cory to play when he was a young teenager.
Cory has played professionally with many well-known Cajun musicians, including Dewey Balfa, D.L. Menard, Hadley Castille, the Michot Brothers, and fiddler Mitch Reed.
Cory taught his wife, Lisa, to play the rhythm guitar before they married - you could say it was a prerequisite. The couple have played at festivals in the U.S., Canada, and Europe, including the Jazz & Heritage Festival, Festivals Acadiens, and Louisiana Folklife Festival.
The McCauleys are well known for their traditional old-time style. They learn their music from old 78 and 45 records, and by visiting with the older musicians. They have had the pleasure of playing alongside Bois Sec Ardoin, Canray Fontenot, Eric & Clay Chapman, Bernard Veillon, Brian Marshall, Jason Frey, Mike Rougeau, Vernon Bergeron, Jane Vidrine, Ann Savoy, and Clint Ward.
Cory was featured in Philip Gould's Cajun Music and Zydeco, and the couple were included in Emile Waagenaar's Arrete pas la musique! Portraits of South Louisiana.
